"The TT buying rate on the Rule 115 specified date (Rule 206 under the new Income-tax Act, 2025) — not the day you were paid, and never a Google rate — is the figure that goes into your return." — CA Juber Attar, TaxFetch e-CA Tax Expert

Today's lower rates across most major currencies mean that taxpayers converting foreign income into rupees for income-tax return purposes will report slightly smaller rupee amounts compared to the rates available two days ago. For foreign income received during FY 2026-27, Rule 206 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 (which carries forward the erstwhile Rule 115) prescribes conversion using the SBI TT buying rate on the specified date, making these official figures essential for accurate ITR filing. A weaker rupee equivalent today reduces the taxable rupee value of overseas earnings.

What is SBI’s TT buying rate for USD today?

SBI's TT buying rate for USD on 3 August 2026 is 94.72 rupees per US dollar.

Why does my ITR need the SBI TT buying rate and not a Google rate?

Rule 115 under the erstwhile Income-tax Act, 1961 (carried forward as Rule 206 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 from FY 2026-27 onwards) and the corresponding rule for computing foreign income both point to the State Bank of India's telegraphic transfer buying rate as the prescribed conversion rate for tax purposes. Google or other market rates lack legal validity for ITR filings, whereas SBI TT rates are the statutory reference specified by the Income-tax Department.

Which date’s rate should I actually use?

Rule 115 fixes a specified date per income type — and the same specified dates carry forward as Rule 206 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 (income of FY 2026-27 onward). In short: FY 2025-26 and earlier returns cite Rule 115; FY 2026-27 onward cite Rule 206 — the rate itself is SBI’s TT buying rate either way. Per income type — for foreign salary and RSU/ESOP perquisites it is the last day of the month before the month the income fell due; for capital gains, the last day of the month before the month of transfer; Schedule FA closing balances take the 31 December rate. Our free SBI TTBR lookup tool works the date rule out for you, steps back to the last published card when SBI issued none, and shows the archive back to January 2020 with every original PDF.
