"The TT buying rate on the Rule 115 specified date (Rule 206 under the new Income-tax Act, 2025) — not the day you were paid, and never a Google rate — is the figure that goes into your return." — CA Juber Attar, TaxFetch e-CA Tax Expert

Today's movements show the rupee weakening against most major currencies, with the USD rising by 0.18 rupees, the EUR up by 0.50 rupees, and the GBP climbing by 0.60 rupees over the previous card. For taxpayers converting foreign income while preparing their income-tax return, these SBI TT buying rates are the legally prescribed exchange rates under Rule 115 (which will continue as Rule 206 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 from FY 2026-27 onwards) for the specified date of receipt or accrual. What is SBI’s TT buying rate for USD today?

SBI's telegraphic transfer buying rate for USD on 4 September 2026 is 94.13 rupees per US dollar. This is the rate you must use for converting dollar income on this date for income-tax purposes.

Why does my ITR need the SBI TT buying rate and not a Google rate?

Rule 115 of the Income-tax Rules, 1962 (to be carried forward as Rule 206 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 from FY 2026-27) and Rule 26 (to continue as Rule 207) specifically prescribe SBI's telegraphic transfer buying rate as the legal exchange rate for tax computations, not market rates from Google or other sources. Using any other rate in your ITR can lead to incorrect income reporting and potential tax notices.

Which date’s rate should I actually use?

Rule 115 fixes a specified date per income type — and the same specified dates carry forward as Rule 206 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 (income of FY 2026-27 onward). In short: FY 2025-26 and earlier returns cite Rule 115; FY 2026-27 onward cite Rule 206 — the rate itself is SBI’s TT buying rate either way. Per income type — for foreign salary and RSU/ESOP perquisites it is the last day of the month before the month the income fell due; for capital gains, the last day of the month before the month of transfer; Schedule FA closing balances take the 31 December rate. Our free SBI TTBR lookup tool works the date rule out for you, steps back to the last published card when SBI issued none, and shows the archive back to January 2020 with every original PDF.
