"The TT buying rate on the Rule 115 specified date (Rule 206 under the new Income-tax Act, 2025) — not the day you were paid, and never a Google rate — is the figure that goes into your return." — CA Juber Attar, TaxFetch e-CA Tax Expert
Today's upward movement in the USD TT buying rate means that taxpayers converting dollar receipts—freelance income, consultancy fees or foreign salary—will book a slightly higher rupee value for income-tax purposes. Under Rule 115 of the Income-tax Rules, 1962 (carried forward as Rule 206 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 from financial year 2026–27), foreign income must be converted using SBI's TT buying rate on the specified date of receipt or accrual. Accordingly, anyone reporting such receipts in their income-tax return should use 95.55 for dollars received on 19 September 2026.

What is SBI’s TT buying rate for USD today?
SBI's TT buying rate for USD on 19 September 2026 is 95.55 rupees per unit. This is the rate you must use to convert dollar income received on that date for income-tax return purposes.
Why does my ITR need the SBI TT buying rate and not a Google rate?
Rule 115 (and the corresponding Rule 26 for advance tax) of the Income-tax Rules, 1962—carried forward as Rule 206 and Rule 207 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 from FY 2026–27—specify that foreign income must be converted at SBI's telegraphic transfer buying rate on the date of receipt, not commercial search-engine rates. Using any other rate, including a Google rate, would not satisfy the statutory method prescribed by the Income-tax Department.
Which date’s rate should I actually use?
Rule 115 fixes a specified date per income type — and the same specified dates carry forward as Rule 206 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 (income of FY 2026-27 onward). In short: FY 2025-26 and earlier returns cite Rule 115; FY 2026-27 onward cite Rule 206 — the rate itself is SBI’s TT buying rate either way. Per income type — for foreign salary and RSU/ESOP perquisites it is the last day of the month before the month the income fell due; for capital gains, the last day of the month before the month of transfer; Schedule FA closing balances take the 31 December rate.
