"The TT buying rate on the Rule 115 specified date (Rule 206 under the new Income-tax Act, 2025) — not the day you were paid, and never a Google rate — is the figure that goes into your return." — CA Juber Attar, TaxFetch e-CA Tax Expert
For taxpayers converting foreign income into rupees when preparing their income-tax return, today's modest rise in the USD rate and mixed movements across other currencies underscore the importance of using the correct specified-date rate. Rule 115 of the Income-tax Rules, 1962 (carried forward as Rule 206 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 from FY 2026-27 onwards) mandates SBI's TT buying rate on the relevant date for foreign-income conversion. Using any other exchange rate—such as interbank or online quotations—will not satisfy the statutory requirement and may invite scrutiny.

What is SBI’s TT buying rate for USD today?
SBI's telegraphic transfer buying rate for the US dollar on 25 September 2026 is 95.50 rupees per unit. This is the rate you must use if your specified date for conversion under the Income-tax Rules falls on 25 September 2026.
Why does my ITR need the SBI TT buying rate and not a Google rate?
Rule 115 of the Income-tax Rules, 1962 (and Rule 26 for specified purposes), carried forward as Rule 206 and Rule 207 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 from FY 2026-27, expressly prescribe SBI's telegraphic transfer buying rate as the statutory exchange rate for converting foreign receipts and expenses. Google rates, card-settlement rates or other published quotations have no legal standing for income-tax return filings and cannot replace the SBI TT buying rate.
Which date’s rate should I actually use?
Rule 115 fixes a specified date per income type — and the same specified dates carry forward as Rule 206 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 (income of FY 2026-27 onward). In short: FY 2025-26 and earlier returns cite Rule 115; FY 2026-27 onward cite Rule 206 — the rate itself is SBI’s TT buying rate either way. Per income type — for foreign salary and RSU/ESOP perquisites it is the last day of the month before the month the income fell due; for capital gains, the last day of the month before the month of transfer; Schedule FA closing balances take the 31 December rate.
