TaxFetch ITR Reader: Analyze & Understand Your ITR PDF

Quick Answer

TaxFetch ITR Reader analyzes an official filed ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3 or ITR-4 PDF and organizes supported data into readable income, deduction, tax and schedule sections. It explains a filed return and provides structured PDF and Excel reports; it does not show live refund status or replace an independent tax assessment.

Your return, explained section by section

A filed income-tax return can contain dozens of pages, unfamiliar schedule names and figures that look similar but mean very different things. TaxFetch ITR Reader is designed to turn a supported return PDF into an organized review you can read, discuss and export.

  • Supported forms: official filed ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3 and ITR-4 PDFs.
  • Upload: one PDF at a time, up to 25 MB; password-protected PDFs use a password prompt.
  • Understand: income heads, deductions, tax computation, taxes paid, refunds and applicable schedules.
  • Keep a report: download PDF and Excel outputs with full analysis access.

What is TaxFetch ITR Reader?

TaxFetch ITR Reader is an online income-tax return PDF analysis tool for supported official filed ITR-1–4 documents. It extracts and organizes information already present in the return so you can understand declared income, claimed deductions, tax figures and relevant schedules without manually searching every page.

It is useful for salaried taxpayers reviewing their filing, investors checking capital-gains disclosures, freelancers and business owners understanding their declared income, and tax professionals preparing for a client discussion. If you have searched for “how to read my ITR,” “ITR PDF analyzer,” “understand income tax return” or “ITR PDF to Excel,” this guide explains what the reader can—and cannot—do.

Important distinction: reading a filed return is not the same as filing a new return, validating every legal claim, checking a live refund or confirming acceptance by the Income Tax Department.

Supported ITR forms and upload requirements

Filed formWhat the review helps you understand
ITR-1Reported salary or pension, house-property and other-source income, deductions and tax summaries, where applicable.
ITR-2Income and applicable capital-gains, foreign-asset and loss schedules included in the filed return.
ITR-3Applicable business/professional income alongside other income heads, gains and supporting schedules.
ITR-4Reported presumptive-income information and other supported income, deduction, filing and tax details.

This table describes the reader's coverage, not the legal eligibility rules for choosing an ITR form. Form eligibility depends on the applicable assessment year and your circumstances.

Upload the complete official filed return PDF, not just an ITR-V acknowledgement, a screenshot, Form 16, Form 26AS, AIS, JSON file or spreadsheet. Support for these forms does not mean every historical utility layout, scanned PDF or third-party printout can be parsed. ITR-5, ITR-6 and ITR-7 are outside this reader's stated scope.

Before uploading, confirm the PDF opens, contains the full return and is no larger than 25 MB. If protected, keep its PDF password available. Do not enter your e-filing account password in the PDF-password field.

A detailed look at the ITR Reader's features

1. Identity, assessment year and filing details

Start by checking the taxpayer details, masked PAN, ITR form and assessment year. Available filing and verification information helps distinguish the document being reviewed from another year's return. Check the filing section and status, plus verification details such as date, capacity and place when the source supports them.

Do not confuse assessment year with financial year. Match the document to the period you intend to review before interpreting its figures.

2. Five income heads with detailed explanations

The reader organizes supported income data around the five familiar heads: salary, house property, profits and gains of business or profession, capital gains, and other sources. Summary cards provide an overview; detailed views help explain the components behind the total.

This separation matters. Salary reported in a return is not necessarily the same as CTC or money credited to a bank account. House-property income is not always equal to rent received. Business turnover is not the same as taxable business profit. Read each figure in its own context.

3. Deductions, exemptions and tax computation

Review deductions extracted from the return, including supported Chapter VI-A information, alongside available tax computation and liability details. Exempt income is distinguished from taxable income where supported by the document.

The report is a way to understand what was declared or claimed. It is not a promise that every deduction is legally available to you or that choosing a different tax regime would save tax. Eligibility, limits and calculations depend on the year, regime and facts.

4. Capital gains with statutory-section context

For supported disclosures, the reader presents capital gains with asset and statutory-section context, including relevant Section 111A and Section 112A information. This helps explain why different gains do not necessarily share the same tax treatment.

Do not assume one rate applies to every equity or property transaction. The applicable assessment year, transfer date, asset, holding period and legal conditions matter. Check the original schedule before using an extracted figure for advice or another filing.

5. Current losses, set-offs and carried-forward losses

Losses need more than a single negative number. The reader distinguishes supported current-year losses, brought-forward losses set off and losses carried forward, including relevant BFLA and CFL disclosures. A loss available for a future year is not automatically a deduction against all current income.

This view is especially helpful when reviewing an investment or business return with both gains and losses. Set-off and carry-forward rules vary by loss type, filing conditions and year; the tool explains supported filed data rather than guaranteeing future eligibility.

6. Foreign assets, virtual digital assets and other schedules

Where present in a supported return, detailed schedule views include foreign assets (FA), virtual digital assets (VDA), exempt income, special-rate income, business or presumptive-income information, and online-gaming income disclosures. FA and VDA tables preserve the available schedule columns instead of reducing everything to an unexplained total.

Not every ITR contains these schedules. A missing, blank or unreadable field is not proof that an asset, liability or taxable event does not exist. Always compare unexpected omissions with the filed PDF.

7. Taxes paid, refund and amount payable

See supported taxes-paid and liability figures alongside the refund or amount-payable summary. These are figures in the analyzed return. A refund claimed in that document is not confirmation that a refund has been approved, issued or received.

8. Warnings, completeness indicators and insights

The reader displays available warnings and completeness information to help you identify areas that need attention. Treat these as review aids, not an audit certificate. An unfamiliar layout or missing source data can require a manual check even when other sections have extracted successfully.

How to analyze your ITR PDF with TaxFetch

  1. Get the correct document. Sign in to the official Income Tax e-Filing portal, locate the relevant filed return and download its complete PDF.
  2. Open TaxFetch ITR Reader. Sign in and open the ITR analysis workspace.
  3. Select one PDF. Check the form, assessment year, completeness and 25 MB limit.
  4. Provide a PDF password only if prompted. Use the document's password, not your government-portal credentials.
  5. Run the analysis. The page displays a staged progress indicator while it sends and processes the document.
  6. Review summary and detail together. Confirm identity and year, then inspect income heads, deductions, gains, losses, tax and any warnings.
  7. Export or ask for help. With full access, download Excel or PDF. Use Give Feedback if something looks wrong, without putting passwords or unnecessary sensitive details in the message.

New Upload, Download Excel, Download PDF and Give Feedback controls are available at both the top and bottom of results. A feedback prompt can also appear when signed-in users reach the end, subject to the usual prompt-suppression rules.

How to understand the numbers in your ITR

TermWhat to keep in mind
Gross total incomeAn income total before eligible Chapter VI-A deductions, subject to the return's computation and set-off rules; not simply bank deposits.
Total incomeThe taxable-income figure computed in the return after applicable adjustments and deductions.
Taxes paidTax-credit/payment figures reported in the return. Independently reconcile against applicable official records.
Refund claimedAn excess-tax claim calculated in the filed document, not a live payment-status update.
Carry-forward lossA disclosed loss for potential future treatment, subject to legal rules; not unrestricted current-year relief.

Simple illustration: if a return shows tax liability of ₹60,000 and eligible taxes paid of ₹75,000, the arithmetic difference is ₹15,000. That illustrates why a refund figure may appear; it is not a prediction that ₹15,000 will be credited. Processing adjustments, credit matching and other facts can change the outcome.

ITR PDF and Excel reports for easier review

With full access, download a PDF analysis report for a readable summary or an Excel report for structured review. These are analysis outputs, not a replacement filed return, government acknowledgement or filing-ready upload.

Use the reports to prepare questions for your tax professional, organize your records or review a client's supported return with permission. Keep the original PDF alongside the export, and verify important figures before relying on them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I analyze my ITR PDF online?

TaxFetch ITR Reader is designed to analyze one supported official filed ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3 or ITR-4 PDF at a time. Review the form, file size and warnings before relying on its output.

Can I convert an ITR PDF into Excel?

You can download the analyzed return as a structured Excel report when exports are available for your account. It is an analysis export, not a pixel-for-pixel PDF conversion or a government filing file.

Does the reader support password-protected ITR PDFs?

Yes, supported password-protected PDFs use a document-password prompt. Enter the PDF password only. Incorrect-password failures do not count as a successful full analysis.

Can I upload an ITR-V acknowledgement instead of the full return?

Use the complete official filed return PDF. An acknowledgement does not contain the detailed income and schedule information required for a full review.

Will it explain capital gains and carry-forward losses?

For supported schedules, it presents gains with relevant asset and statutory-section context and separates current losses, brought-forward set-offs and carried-forward losses. Check the original return and applicable rules before acting.

Does the refund figure mean my refund has been issued?

No. It is the refund figure in the analyzed return, not a live confirmation from the Income Tax Department. Check refund and processing status through official channels.

Can the tool file or revise my income-tax return?

No. ITR Reader helps explain a filed return and generate analysis reports. Filing or revising a return is a separate process and may require professional advice.

Why is a schedule missing from my report?

The schedule may not be present in the filed return, may not apply to that form, or may not be readable in the supplied layout. Inspect completeness warnings and the original PDF rather than assuming a missing field equals zero.

Review your return with more confidence

You should not need to guess what an income figure means or search dozens of pages to find the relevant schedule. TaxFetch ITR Reader brings supported information together so you can ask better questions and keep a clearer record of your filing.
